On Monday, September 9, 2019, Jacqueline (JJ) Dugger, loving wife and step mother, passed away at the age of 69. She received a Masters degree from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. She married Donald (Don) Ellis and together they helped raise his son David from a previous marriage during summer visitation.
JJ did computer consulting, working with Access databases at Ralcorp and other companies, taught classes in business communications at Maryville University and did conference coordination and training and development for Laverne Morrow at Emprise Designs. Before she had to quit working in 2010 due to congestive heart failure, she worked as a house cleaner and babysitter, continuing to apply her vast educational and organizational skills, taking great pride in being thorough and precise.
JJ was a creative facilitator, getting people to work and play well together. She loved gardening and watching things grow. She had herb and vegetable gardens, which she carefully tended with the help of her husband. She loved to develop fun and innovative ways to become more organized and motivated.
She had a passion for giving back to the community by being a part of the neighborhood watch, getting to know her neighbors, and counseling those in her community. JJ’s passions and values were underpinned by her religion, Wicca, which informed her focus on community, nature, political activism, and personal responsibility. One of her last public activities was attending an organizational meeting for a new FIRST Robotics team at the end of July. Characteristically, after the initial statements, when the organizers called for introductions and discussion, she stood up and took charge. She had everyone arrange the chairs in a circle so they could see each other, and pointed out critical issues in the discussion. She made a roomful of new friends for life.
JJ was preceded in death by her father, her mother, and a sister. She is survived by her husband, Don, her stepson, her granddaughter, another sister, her nephew, and her two nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 1pm at the St. Louis Friends Meeting at 1001 Park Ave, St Louis MO 63104. Donations may be sent in her honor to https://www.alivingtribute.org/.
