Bishop Jackie Woods Obituary

Bishop Jackie Joshua Woods, also known as Bishop J.J. Woods, was born on May 3rd, 1929 in Perry, Oklahoma to George and Anna Woods. He was the ninth of ten children born to this union, six girls and four boys. His parents, sisters, and brothers preceded him in death. He married Harriet Woods on June 4th, 1968. Harriet, Donna Hardon-daughter, and Connie Chetham-stepdaughter also preceded him in death.

Bishop J.J. Woods was educated in Perry, Oklahoma and graduated in 1947 from Blane High School. Bishop Woods served in the United States Army starting in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was also a hard worker. He worked on the railroad and retired from Monsanto.

After being discharged from the Army, Bishop Woods followed in his father’s footsteps and started preaching. He ordained preachers and churches from New York to California for decades. He was known as the “Walking Bible” as he could recite any scripture from memory. He also taught a class on the radio called “Walking with God”. Bishop Woods also served as the Bishop of Morning Star Pentecostal Church and From Glory to Glory Pentecostal Church.

Bishop Woods leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter, Jackie Leathers of Oklahoma; four nieces, DeAnn King, Georgetta Session, Lorraine Ingram, and Barbara Garitt of California; a special daughter in Christ, Apostle Linda Harrison of Missouri and a host of other family and friends.
