Deacon Calvin Collins Jr. Obituary

On January 4, 1947 Calvin Collins Jr. was born at City Hospital in St. Louis Missouri to the parents of Calvin and Matlida Collins Sr.

Calvin accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior earlier in life at Lively Stone Church of God under the leadership of Bishop P.L. Scott. Additionally, he was baptized in Jesus’ name! Throughout his faith journey, God’s favor shone on Calvin whereby he was elevated to deacon. He served in that role within various faith communities.

On July 27, 2001 Deacon Calvin Collins married the love of his life, Dr. Shirley Collins. These two struck the right romantic tone as they loved and cared for each other until God called Deacon Collins home. Deacon Collins did not play when it came to Dr. Shirley Collins.

Deacon Calvin Collins retired from Anheuser-Busch Corporation as a bottler. While working at Anheuser Busch, Deacon Collins soared in the area of contracting which led to the assembling of his own company, Collins and Sons. Collins and Sons was Deacon Collins unique and authentic way of helping the community with affordable contracting as well as training and employing at- risk youth! He continued this work post-retirement.

In 2005 God led Deacon Collins alongside his wife Dr. Collins to serve at New Life Fellowship Church, now The New Church (TNC) under the leadership of Pastor A.S. McCaa Sr.! At TNC, Deacon Collins was loved by the membership and was known for his spontaneous whistle blowing as a form of praise and passing out candy.

Friendly, bubbly, genuine, raw and giving are perfect descriptors of Deacon Collins’ personality. Moreover, he loved to eat, fish, shoot pool, watch Sci-Fi movies and tell his infamous child rearing South St. Louis stories. He was also a part of the Masonic Order!

On any given day, you could find Deacon Collins hanging out in his mancave (aka the garage) joking and having fun with his friends: Maurice, Brandon, Darryl and Lucky!

Deacon Collins was preceded in death by his parents Calvin and Matilda Collins Sr.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Evangelist Ruby Collins, Vera Dungey (William Dungey) and Pastor Anna Grier (Bishop Robert Grier).

On Thursday March 18, 2021, God said Deacon Collins, well done, it is time to travel from earth to glory!

Deacon Collins leaves behind in cherish memory his wife, Dr. Shirley Collins; children, Kim Rose-Walker (Donald Walker), Theresa Collins, and Ivory Eiland (Drique Eiland); step-children, Elder James McDaniel (Erika McDaniel), Frankie McCaa III and Pastor Anthony S.
