Dr. Frederick Spencer was born August 8, 1951, in Clarksdale, MS to the parents of Gloriastine Martin and Charles Pittman, Sr., both of whom preceded him in death.
He was a product of the St. Louis Public School System, graduating from Beaumont High School in 1969. He received a B.A. 1973, M.A. Psychology 1975, M.S. 1975 Social Work, all from Washington University; Ph.D. Philosophy 1980 from St. Louis University.
Dr. Spencer confessed his hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age, under the leadership of Pastor R.T. Davis of the Olivet M.B. Church. He was a faithful member of the Deacon Board and the Singing Ministry. He led songs such as “I’m Going to Wait on Jesus”, “I Can Depend on God”, and many others. He was especially known for running upstairs from the kitchen when he heard the introduction of his song being played, sometimes with the chicken bone still in hand!
He met the love of his life, Patricia Reese, in class at Beaumont High School around 1967. They were wed in Holy Matrimony in November 1974 and remained married unto his death. To this union was born Anitra D. Spencer and Fred J. Spencer, Jr. He was very proud of his children’s accomplishments, and careers. Dr. Spencer loved his family, had a keen sense of humor, loved listening and singing gospel music, and enjoyed thrift shopping at Goodwill stores. He was called home surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday March 11, 2025, at 10:06 p.m.
Dr. Spencer leaves to cherish his memories his wife Patricia Reese-Spencer; children - daughters Anitra (Jerren) McKenny, and Tychica (Chad) Williams, son Fred Spencer, Jr; siblings - Maurice “Ricky” Jones, LaVerne (Leonard) Harris, Charles Pittman, Aubrey “Nick” Pittman, Helen (Raynard) Cockrell, Shaun (Sharon) Pittman, Tana (Daniel) Vassel, Oscar Porter, Larry Johnson, and Angela (Roger) Nabors.
