Mother Birder Mae Boutte was born March 12, 1920 to Albert Neal and Lillian (Clark) Neal in Thornton, Mississippi. She was the second child of seven children. Mom Boutte was called home to be with the Lord on July 21, 2022. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, six siblings, two sons, Joseph Buie Jr, John Buie and daughter, Jenette Buie.
Mom Boutte was united in marriage to Joseph Buie and later to Marcel Boutte who both preceded her in death. From these unions ten children were born.
Upon moving to St. Louis, she joined New Paradise Missionary Baptist Church, the church which her mother proudly named, and she sang in the choir. Later, she joined Abundant Life Fellowship, where she was a servant leader for 30 plus years. She was ordained as a Mother and affectionately know as “Mother Boutte.” She counseled with church members and friends with many late-night phone calls and prayers with her spiritual children.
Mom Boutte loved her family and to her family she was lovingly known as “Honey.” Her love language was cooking and she was known for her rolls, cakes, cobblers, and specialty ice tea. She left a legacy of her culinary skills to her children and grandchildren. Mom Boutte’s joy in life was being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
In her later years, she was loved and cared for by her children, grandchildren, and friends. Mom Boutte leaves behind to mourn, her children Helen (Leroy deceased) Young, Reita (Nathan) Williams, Phillip Buie (Claudia deceased) Wayne (Patricia) Buie, Wendell Buie, Yvonne (Floyd) Brooks, and Melonie Boutte, her daughter-in-law Jackie Buie and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family members, spiritual children and dear friends.
