Mother Naomi Henry Obituary

On February 27, 1935, A virtuous woman, Naomi Myrtle Sleet was born to Sensonian Alfred and Ethel Hickman Sleet, the youngest daughter of fourteen. At the tender age of one month old, Naomi ’s journey of faith began at the Fifth Baptist Church located in the Patch of St. Louis. It was there on Christmas Day in 1944 that she, along with her sisters, Ethel and Barbara were baptized by Pastor Charles Morgan Victor Miller.

Throughout the years, Naomi possessed qualities that others readily recognized as uncommon virtuosity. Affectionately called Nacy, she worked tirelessly without ever complaining, as she rendered her service to the Lord. Because of Nacy’s excellent record keeping she made being a Church Clerk look easy; she served on the Publication Staff starting in the late 1950’s and continued through to the early 2000’s mentoring other young women to produce excellence in publication for the congregation. Naomi continued her good works by serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, a devoted Mission Worker, Pastor’s Aide Chairperson, and Vacation Bible School Secretary.

He who finds a wife finds a good thing. In July of 1967 Naomi married James Henry. As a virtuous woman she respected her husband and was trustworthy and a helpmeet. As a Virtuous Woman Naomi taught her children the ways of her Father in heaven. There wasn’t anything that she wouldn’t do for her son, Duane Michael and her daughter, Susan Annah. Ever the dedicated mother, she nurtured her children with the love of Christ, disciplined them with care and wisdom, and trained them in the way they should go. As a Virtuous Woman Naomi served her family, her friends, and her community. She was charitable and a servant. In June 2004, she joined Southside Baptist Church to assist her son’s pastoral ministry, by serving as a very efficient Church Administrator. Her service continued in the Antioch District Association as Corresponding Secretary and as a Registrar in the Congress of Christian Education as well as a Devotional Leader for the District’s Mission
WMU.

As a virtuous Woman Naomi worked willingly. Nacy’s scholastic education was developed by attending Wheatley Elementary, Cole Middle School, Sumner High School graduating in January 1952. She sang praises to God and did not grumble while completing her tasks. After graduation she furthered her education at Hubbard Business School. As any virtuous woman would do, she sought out new vistas and pursued new careers. Naomi was employed as a secretary in the St. Louis Public School from 1953 until 1963 she when she joined Lever Brothers until retiring in 1992.

As a Virtuous Woman Naomi created an inviting atmosphere of warmth and love. She used hospitality to minister to those around her creating special memories for her family and friends. Naomi possessed the inner beauty that only comes from Christ. She was beautiful inside and out. Her presence was one of sheer class and sophistication. With a love for the finer things in life, she did not dress to impress, her attire impressed upon others her persona of a virtuous woman of excellence.

In November 2007 Naomi joined Greater Rising Star and was consecrated as a mother by Rev. Nathaniel Griffin. There she continued her great work as Announcement Clerk as she excelled at writing uniquely thoughtful and prolific condolences. Naomi, a Virtuous Woman, whose worth was far above rubies, faithfully served the Lord until He called her home on April 18, 2024. Her father, mother, twelve of her siblings and her grandson, Irijah Scott preceded her in death.
