I was born at 3:00 AM on January 6, 1927 at 4460 West Belle Place, the youngest child of Cordelia (Maddox) and Van Dorn Williams Jr. My brother and sister preceded me in death.
I attended John Marshall and Cole Elementary Schools, Sumner High School and Howard University. During the Korean Conflict,
I was drafted into military service on October 30, 1950, where I served as an infantry cadre with the 94th Infantry Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. During my military tenure, I attained the rank of Sergeant and was discharged on October 30, 1952.
I was employed by the U.S. Defense Corporation, Universal Match Corporation (Armament Div.), Missouri Research Laboratories and McDonnell Aircraft. I worked on the design and development of ground training devices at McDonnell Aircraft for 23 years, retiring April 30, 1987 as a senior design engineer.
I married my high school sweetheart, Chloe A. Webb on May 18, 1949. From this union came two children, Alvan Jr. and Kimberly Ann. My devoted wife Chloe and loving daughter Kimberly later preceded me in death.
I leave behind: my son Alvan Jr., four grandsons, one granddaughter and seven great grandchildren; with great love and devotion to my nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.
