Aubrey Adams was born on January 12th, 1945, in St. Louis, MO. Aubrey was affectionately known as “Poochie” by friends and family. He was the 6th child born to the union of John and Luella Richardson Adams. Both parents preceded him to heaven along with his daughter Bridget Michelle Gray and his seven siblings, Johnny Mae, Alice Mae, Barbara Jean, Mildred, only brother, Melvin Adams Edna, and Marian Adams.
Poochie received his education in the Saint Louis public school district. Poochie enjoyed all types of sports and was very competitive. He played third base for the Vaughn Tigers from 1963 to 1968. He loved jazz and Motown, and he loved dancing, but his favorite was bopping, and he was awesome on the dance floor. His other passions were throwing them dice and handling that pool stick, which was notorious.
He worked 30 years for the Fehlig Brothers lumber company. He was also employed at Southern Cross Lumber Company for a period of time and at the Frisco bridge during maintenance work. He was a very unique dresser who loved clothes. Poochie was a skilled craftsman when it came to woodwork; he knew every type of wood, and his talent allowed him to work and fix tables, benches, ashtrays, and anything involving wood.
In 1968, Aubrey's life changed forever when he laid eyes on Rose. For the next 56 years, they would be together, companions in love. Poochie was a person who loved his family. They came first in his life: a truly devoted companion, father, grandfather, and father figure to his nieces and nephews and children in the neighborhood where he was well-liked.
Poochie departed this life on February 11, 2025; he leaves to cherish his forever memory the love of his life, Rose, the five sons he raised: Aubrey Yates Bey, Andre, Arvell, Carlton, and Reginald Gray: 25 grandchildren, Quentin, Laquanna, Audrey, Audrey Jr. “Lil Man,” Andresha, Kenya, Kenyona, Arvell Jr., Andre Jr., Marquis “Keso”, Latosha, Marius, Ciera, Khashad, Anyai, Candriel, Arbriel, Dalton, Rhiana, Destiny, Amber, Carmaya, Andrea, Aubrey N., and Taeyanna, 40 Great Grandchildren, a host of nieces nephews cousins, other relatives and friends.
