Corey Hughes, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, at the age of 55. Born on July 4, 1969, in St. Louis, Missouri, Corey brought joy and warmth to all who knew him. He spent his later years residing in Austell, Georgia, where he continued to touch lives with his kindness and gentle nature.
Corey was the son of the late Dr. Carl E. Hughes, Sr., and Mavis M. Hughes. He is survived by his loving sisters, Barbara Hughes of Buffalo, NY, and Emma Annette Caldwell of Kansas City, MO, and his brother, Charles Hughes of Los Angeles, CA. He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl E. Hughes, Jr.
A proud graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, Corey earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Resources Management/Personnel Administration, followed by a master’s degree that further enhanced his career. He dedicated over 21 years to BCD Travel as an Online Meeting Administrator, where his expertise and commitment were invaluable. Corey also served as the Assistant Director of Hospital Housekeeping Systems, showcasing his passion for service and leadership.
An avid bowler and talented singer, Corey found joy in sharing his love for gospel music with family and friends. His vibrant spirit and infectious personality will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Corey was a proud member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., joining the Xi Iota Chapter in the spring of 1990. His Fraternity Brothers and the broader community will remember him for his unwavering dedication and the impact he made on countless lives.
Corey Hughes will forever be remembered for his love, laughter, and the light he brought into the world.
