James Lee Davis, affectionately known as “Jimmy,” peacefully departed this life on September 30, just one day shy of his 76th birthday, after an extended illness. Born on October 1, 1949, in St. Louis, Missouri, he was the beloved son of Mae Bell Davis and James Buchanan, both of whom preceded him in death and are lovingly remembered by all who knew them.
Jimmy proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, demonstrating the same courage and commitment that he carried throughout his life.
Known for his larger-than-life personality, sharp wit, and easy laughter, Jimmy had a gift for bringing joy to every room he entered. A master at the pool table and affectionately known as a “pool shark,” he enjoyed friendly competition and the company of good friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Deondre Davis Jr., and his siblings Litton Cannon Jr., Florence Hill, Bill Cannon, Clarene Royston, and Frederick Davis. Though they are no longer with us, their love and memory remain deeply woven into the Davis family story.
Jimmy leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his son Michael L. Davis (Tyeshia) and grandchildren Michael Davis Jr., TayLynn R. Davis, and Cynphony A. Davis; his daughter Anita M. Davis and her children DeMico Davis, Michelle B. Hagen (Joseph) and great-granddaughter Noel Hagen; his daughter Nicole Burgess and her children Ajaunte Hildeburg, A’Jah Hildeburg, and Mi’Amor Burgess; and his youngest daughter Harmony Burgess.
He is also lovingly remembered by the children of his late son, James Deondre Davis Jr.: Yahirra Davis, Josiah Davis, Yasmine Davis, Shyann Davis, and Semaj Davis.
In addition, Jimmy’s legacy lives on through a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends spread across the United States, each touched by his warmth, humor, and enduring spirit.
The Davis family extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Barnes Hospital for their compassionate care during Jimmy’s illness.
A memorial service celebrating the life and legacy of James L Davis will be held.
Though he will be deeply missed, Jimmy’s laughter, love, and light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who loved him
