Obituary

Lavell Boyd, Sr. was born in St. Louis Missouri, on February15,1948 to john Thomas Boyd and Mabel Lee Boyd who preceded him in death. He was baptized at an early age and attended Soldan High School in the St. Louis public school system.

In 1965, Lavell married the love of his life, Martha Boyd. This union lasted 56 years and through this union, four children were born. Lavell Boyd Jr., Wanda l. Merrill, Lonell Boyd, and Lonzell Boyd.

Lavell was employed by the city of St. Louis where he retired in 1998 at the age of 50. He met and befriended many co-workers, some remaining life-long friends. In his spare time, you could often find him sitting alone, reminiscing while listening to his favorite R&B group, The Temptations. He knew the lyrics to every song and at one time, amassed a huge collection of their albums. He also enjoyed hanging out with his friends.

When Lavell and Martha’s youngest son, Lonzell Boyd was seriously injured, Lavell dedicated himself to helping care for Lonzell. That became his priority in life. He always focused on family values and promoted closeness within the family. Often playing the role of peacemaker, he was very supportive of family endeavors for he loved his family immensely.

After a valiant battle with cancer, Lavell passed away at home on November 11, 2021.

He leaves to cherish his memories, Martha Boyd, his wife of 56 years; his oldest son, Lavell Boyd Jr.; his only daughter, Wanda l. Merrill; third born son, Lonell Boyd, and his youngest son, Lonzell Boyd; one brother, James and Gloria Boyd; two sisters, Mildred Griffin and Marietta Stewart; sixteen grandchildren, many great grandchildren as well as two sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, in-laws, extended family, friends and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Boyd and Mabel Lee Boyd; three brothers, Otis Adams, Joe N. Boyd, and John U. Boyd; two sisters, Flossie M. Banks and Doris l. Brown; three brothers-in law, Essic Griffin, William Banks, and Isadore Brown as well as his oldest grandson, Lavell (City Stylez) Boyd.
