Mr. Lonnie L. Smith, Jr. was born on September 25, 1969 to the union of Lonnie L. Sr. and Verdistine I. Smith in St. Louis, MO. He was the elder of two sons. He was affectionately nicknamed “Lonniel” by his family and later lovingly named “Tonka” by his oldest niece, Colondra, which became his title for his nieces and nephew.
Lonnie attended schools in the St. Louis Public school district and was a proud member of the 1987 graduating class of William McKinley High School. Go Goldbugs!! While at McKinley H.S., he lettered in baseball, football, and wrestling and was very popular among his classmates.
Lonnie was very handsome and quite social. He made sure he looked good. He had an amazing smile and hearty laugh. He will always be remembered for being very tender-hearted and giving big hugs.
He was the father of three sons: Jordan, Alonté, and Elijah. He loved to encourage them and support their endeavors. He consistently spoke of their accomplishments and dreams. His love for football was passed down to all of his sons. He coached multiple little league football teams to championships, including his son’s team, the Berkeley Falcons.
Lonnie and his brother Colin remained close throughout life. Motorcycling specifically was their favorite pastime; they even formed a motorcycle club, Mah Choo Pah. In the club they traveled and supported charitable events throughout the city of St. Louis.
Within his lifetime, he held positions at Chrysler and Union Electric. He also worked with his brother Colin on remodeling projects.
Lonnie confessed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. When Lonnie transitioned from this life on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, he left a void in the hearts of those who loved him and the lives he touched.
