Phillip Jerome Newbill was the fourth son born to James and Gussie Newbill on February 24, 1953; both have preceded him in death.
He was an employee of the St. Louis Public Library for 50 years, recently at the Schlafy Branch. Phillip graduated from Soldan High School.
As a child Phillip struggled with hesitant speech of which he overcame with the use of a tape recording machine that was given to him by his mother. He was never one of frivolous things; he was peaceful, God fearing, a gentleman, a lover of history, the written words of authors and the old Rock and Roll music. In his heart, he always sought to do what he believed to be the right things to do - and in this strength he was content to stand fast.
Phillip’s life was taken by a driver as he crossed the street leaving work the evening of Wednesday, April 21st. He was a devoted and honorable husband to his wife of 45 years Janice Newbill and a wonderful father to five children- Laura S. Newbill, Autumn K. Johnson, Aubrey D. Harlen, Shane P. Newbill and Wyatt Newbill; nine grandchildren, Sharrieff R. Muhammad, Nasirah A. Muhammad, Fahima I Muhammad, Dynah M. Harlen, Jayden A. Gay, Ja’Cobi L. Brown, Matthew W. Hipschman, Iris J. Johnson, and Mason K. Johnson. Siblings; Thurman L. Newbill, Perry R, Newbill ( Laura K. Newbill ), James E. Newbill ( Silla Newbill, recently passed), Donna M. Robinson ( Lee Robinson ), Constance D. Henderson and Lisa R. Newbill ( Robert Yoder ); and a host of nieces and nephews.
