Ronald “Ronnie” Childress was born July 27, 1955 to his parents, Oscar and Dollie Mae Childress. He was the fifth of nine children. His parents; brothers, Sam, Sonny, John and James Childress, as well as his grandson, Paris Lee Jr. preceded him in death. After a brief illness, Ronnie departed this life on December 10, 2021.
His parents gave him his spiritual foundation and he accepted Christ at an early age at the Zion Hill M.B. Church, where he attended Sunday School and sang in the choir.
To know Ronnie was to love him, and you definitely would be laughing a few minutes after meeting him. He loved to joke around and would keep you laughing. He was influenced by his family to be a loving, caring, and very witty person. Ronnie loved his family dearly including his longtime lady-friend, Jane Jones of which they shared years of creating memories with their children. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and developed special bonds with them.
He will be greatly missed by all of his family, especially hearing him say, “What kind of bird don’t fly… a jailbird”, “What’s up Bird”, “Nicky Rat, Pat Pat Pat” and his favorites, “You got me bumped” and “Que Pasa”. Ronald was one of a kind.
Ronald leaves to cherish his memories: six children, Dewayne Shockley (Dionna), DeRon Young, Trina Thomas (Corey), Robert Jones, LaRhonda Jones and Ronald Jones Sr.; fifteen grandchildren, Araya Merikel Shockley, Tishunna Baker, Cameron Young, Ryon Young, Cidney Young, Tinisha Thomas, LaRon Thomas, Jazmin Thomas, Corey Thomas Jr., Jordan Thomas, Dijana Lashae Lee, Dorian Lee, Adriana Jones, Kamya Jones, and Ronald Jones Jr.; six great grandchildren, Da’Ryiah Lashae Lee, Jaliyah Thomas, Jaceyon Graves, LaRon Thomas Jr., Lauryn Thomas, and LaRyiah Thomas; four siblings, Wanda Brooks, Rhonda Childress, Michael Childress (Dorothy) and Geniece Carr; a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
