Mrs. Arnell Levy Obituary

Arnell Gardner Levy was born in Pickens County, Alabama on May 25, 1935. She was the sixth of twelve children born to the Joseph and Ella-Weas McGill Gardner. “Nelle-Belle”, as she was affectionately called, professed her love for Christ at and early age and was baptized at Tabernacle C.M.E. Church.

After graduating from Perker High School in Birmingham, Alabama, Arnell moved to St. Louis, Missouri where she met and fell in love with Harry Clerk Levy. The couple married in January 1959 and four children were born within this union: Joey Braselle, Johnnie Lee, Jacqueline Lynell, and Harriet Ann who preceded her in death.

In St. Louis, Arnell joined Lively Stone Church of God In Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop P.L. Scott. She retired in 1999 after faithfully serving for over forty years as psychiatric nurse for the State of Missouri. Arnell’s diligent and unconditional love was demonstrated in the excellent way she nurtured her loved ones and her community. She epitomized the meaning of a Virtuous Woman, as well as the Lily of the Valley. Arnell was always clothed with sweet humility and pure loving-kindness. In her later years, she joined Prince of Peace M.B. Church until her health began to decline.

Loved one who preceded Arnell in death include: her husband Harry, daughter Harriet, father Joseph, mother Ella-Weas, siblings Bertha Gardner, Joe Preston Gardner, Wilker Gardner, Ardelia Green, Annie Weas Guyton, Virgie Thomas, Ernie Jean Gardner, Clammie Dean Gardner and Ernestine Bozeman.

Arnell Gardner Levy departed this life on Saturday, July 10, 2021. Those left to cherish her memory include: her children, Joey, Johnnie and Jacqueline; grandchildren, Julian (Trina) Hubbard, FeLauren Aurielle Levy and Michelle Marie Levy; great grandchildren, Mario, Azaria, Amaze and Amori; sisters, Dorothy Chaney and Mertha (L. Andrew) Gardner; sister-in-law, Doris Gardner along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
