Late Mrs. Ekanem Ekpo was born on September 5, 1954, to the late Chief Utuk Anyang Nkanga and late Alice Charlie Udo-Ibe of Ndiya Usung Inyang, Nsit Ubium LGA, Akwa Ibom State. She was raised in a disciplined and academically inclined household, as both of her parents were educated and strongly emphasized the importance of Education.

From an early age, Ekanem demonstrated great potential. She began her primary education at a local school and later attended Odot Secondary School, where she excelled academically and in extracurricular activities. After completing her secondary education, she attended Teachers Training College at Oron in Oron. Then she proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical and Health Education.
During her university years, Ekanem was a standout athlete, actively participating in various track and field events, including long jump, 100 meters, 200 meters, lawn tennis, and table tennis, javelin and hurdles. Her passion and dedication to sports earned her numerous medals and trophies, and she had the honor of representing both Nigeria and her university at national and international sporting events.

Ekanem began her professional journey as a teacher in Nigeria, dedicating herself to shaping young minds and preparing students for success in the real world. Her love for education and mentorship made her an impactful figure in the lives of many students. Armed with her degree and multiple certifications, she worked diligently as a Certified Medical Technician. In this role, she was responsible for ensuring the proper administration of medications and providing essential support to patients. Her commitment to excellence and compassion for those in need made her a valued professional in her field until her passing.
Marital Life
Fondly called "Adiaha Nkanga" by her family and friends, Ekanem was introduced to Mr. Edem P. Paul of Nnung Udoe Ibesikpo, who was based in the USA at the time. Captivated by her kindhearted nature and homely character, he sought her hand in marriage, and they wed in August 1992. In 1995, she joined her husband in the United States, where they built a life together. Although their marriage did not produce biological children, she was a devoted mother to her son, Ekemini Akpan, and stepchildren Nsikan Ekpo, Udeme Ekpo, Aniebiet Ekpo, and Ukeme Ekpo. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend to all who knew her.

Ekanem was born into a Christian family, but her faith deepened when she moved to Oku Abak for her teaching career. There, she became an active member of The Apostolic Church in Oku Abak, Akwa Ibom State, serving faithfully as a chorister. She found great joy in worship and was dedicated to caring for church leaders and ensuring their well-being.
Upon relocating to the United States, she sought a place of worship that would nurture her spiritual growth. She found a home in First Baptist Church of Ferguson, where she remained a devoted member until her passing.
