Mrs. Martha Boyd Obituary

Martha May “Honey” Boyd, born Martha May Moorehead, was born in Osceola, Arkansas on July 17, 1949 to Willie and Martha Moorehead. She was one of 17 children born to this union.

Martha was baptized at an early age. She attended L’Ouverture Middle and McKinley High School, in the St. Louis public school system.

In 1965, Martha married the love of her life, Lavell Boyd. This union lasted 56 years and through this union four children were born, Lavell Jr., Wanda, Lonell and Lonzell. Martha was a stay-at-home mom for many years. She worked part-time for Embassy Suites for 5 years.

Martha was a gifted cook, and cooking was her passion. She was the nucleus of the family, and she enjoyed hosting family get togethers and parties. She was a traditional woman who established traditions within her family that went on consistently for more than 50 years. She was the thread that pulled us all together year after year.

Martha loved music (oldies but goodies), and she loved her family dearly. You could always find her dancing and singing, and feeding everyone who showed up to holiday gatherings. When Lavell and Martha’s youngest son Lonzell was seriously injured, they both dedicated their lives to care for him. That task became their number one priority in life. Martha loved her family, children and husband immensely. After a valiant battle with a serious medical condition,

Martha passed away on August 18, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Martha Moorehead; her husband, Lavell Boyd; siblings, Willie Moorehead Jr., James Moorehead, Edward “Ed” Moorehead, Anthony Moorehead, Luther Moorehead, Christine Cherry, Jimmie Lee Moorehead, Johnnie Lee Moorehead, Barbara Jean Moorehead, and Margaret Ann Neverls; and grandchildren, Lavell “CityStylez” Boyd and Dadream “PJ” Boyd.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her oldest son, Lavell Boyd Jr., her only daughter, Wanda Boyd-Merrill, her third born, Lonell Boyd, and her youngest son, Lonzell Boyd; 3 brothers, Irving Moorehead Sr., Henry Moorehead, and Kelvin Moorehead; 2 sisters, Rosie (Lee) Moorehead and Mary Ann Moorehead; daughter-in-law, Davina Boyd; 16 grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, in-laws, extended family and friends.
