Mary Jean Hense was born August 22, 1941 in Shaw, Mississippi to Annie Belle and Jonas Rodgers. She was the middle child of three children. Mary’s family and friends lovingly called her Jean.
Jean and her family moved from Shaw, Mississippi to Kansas City, Missouri. Jean graduated from East High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1960. While working and going to school Jean met Calvin Hense who was stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas. Calvin and Jean were married on October 11, 1960. That’s when their fairytale began. The two of them were inseparable. After completing his tour in the military, the two of them moved to St. Louis, Missouri. Jean worked at Famous and Barr in the fine jewelry department until she retired in 2003. Jean and Calvin loved to dress up and go out on the town. They loved to travel and take cruises. They loved each other unconditionally. Jean and Calvin were married for 60 years and 5 months until Calvin passed in March 2021.
Jean was heartbroken and miserable without Calvin, God saw her struggling, so he called her home on January 1, 2023 so that she and Calvin could be reunited again.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents Jonas and Annie Rodgers, her brother L. Rodgers and her husband Calvin Hense.
Jean leaves to cherish her: her sister Teresa Rodger, her 2 brother-in-laws; Donald and Alonzo(Rhonda) Hense, and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
