Mrs. Ruby Leatherberry Obituary

On October 8, 1947, God breathed life into Ruby Kathleen Hooker and placed her in the loving care of parents Katie and Rufus Hooker who preceded her in death. Ruby was their first of seven gifts from God.

Ruby was born in Tennessee and educated in the Saint Louis Public School System. She attended Sumner High School, where she excelled in academic and extracurricular activities.

As a young girl, Ruby confessed her love for Christ and was baptized as a member of Monumental Missionary Baptist Church. Her hands, guided by her parents, found plenty to do. Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, Baptist Training Union, and choir were areas where she excelled. Her faith in God was unwavering, evident in her fervent prayers and joyful praises through all circumstances.

Ruby was a faithful and active choir member, and Deaconess of Monumental. Her involvement continued until the failing health of her husband, Deacon Albert Leatherberry, who preceded her in death.

Ruby was a sweet spirit whose smile could light up a room. She was a quiet storm you never wanted to ignite. She was very creative and enjoyed activities like sewing, crafting, painting, and drawing. Her handmade gifts brought joy to everyone who received them. Known as the Queen of Crochet, she could create anything you could imagine. Ruby was scrapbooking before scrapbooking became popular, showcasing her innovative spirit and inspiring others to start crafting.

Ruby was a true romantic, having been married three times throughout her life. She cherished each of her marriages deeply. She was first married to Edward Morgan in 1963, with whom she shared three children, Edward preceded her in death. In 1976, Ruby married her second husband, Herman Williams and they had three children, Herman preceded her in death. In 1993 Ruby found love again with Albert Leatherberry, no children were born to this union, but a blended family was created.

After a life well lived Ruby made her transition on Saturday July 5,2025 to take her rest in the presence of her Heavenly Father.

Ruby leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life: sons, Charlie (Shiketa) Morgan, Arthur Morgan, Christopher Morgan, Pierre (Ann) Morgan, Carthen Morgan, daughter VanDesia Morgan, two siblings Rufus and Frieda, her other four siblings Alvis, Elzora, William, and Raymond preceded her in death. Brother-N-love Gary Smith, sister-N-love Sylvia Hooker. Twenty-seven (27) grandchildren, Forty (40) great grandchildren three aunts Ruby, Georgia and Irma of Tennessee and host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special thanks to Kayla and Alan, for the countless hours you spent by her side, ensuring she was comfortable and well cared for. We are grateful for you both.
