Ms. Marie Wilson was born in Minden, Louisiana, to the union of Henry Mack and Minnie Ola Washington on April 17, 1934. She was the sixth of nine siblings, raised in a loving home, and confessed her life to Christ at an early age at Blue Run Baptist Church.
Marie was educated in the Minden public school system. She moved to St. Louis, Missouri, to explore new opportunities. Upon arriving, Marie met Jerry Wilson, whom she married. To this union, two daughters, Sandra Wilson and Michelle “Renee” Donaldson, were born.
Marie began her professional career at Saint Louis University (SLU) as a lab tech supporting genetic research; she contributed to studies involving fruit flies. Her dedication and exceptional work ethic left a lasting impression on a professor who, upon moving to the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL) personally recruited her to join their research team. She continued her career at UMSL as an animal tech with the same commitment and excellence until her retirement.
Marie was a woman whose kindness knew no bounds and whose heart was open to all. Love, acceptance, and an unwavering belief in the goodness of others defined her. She welcomed everyone she met with genuine warmth, making each person feel seen, valued, and understood. Her inclusive spirit created a sense of belonging wherever she went, and her gentle compassion touched countless lives.
If you were fortunate enough to sit at a table where one of Marie’s meals was served, you were indeed among the lucky. From her perfectly fried fish and hot-water cornbread to her decadent German chocolate and pound cakes, every dish she prepared was a true culinary delight. Beyond her talent in the kitchen, she was equally talented at playing a good game of Rummy. Marie carried herself with effortless style and timeless grace.
On November 4, 2025, Marie departed this life and was reunited with her parents, Henry Mack and Minnie Ola Washington; brothers, Henry, Arthur, and Willie; and sisters, Gracie, Dorothy, and Clara, who preceded her in death.
Marie leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, Linda Dixon, Sandra Wilson, Michelle “Renee” Donaldson; a granddaughter, Angela (Charles) Hale; four great-granddaughters; Adrionna, Ariona, JaNiece, and Angel; a great-great-grandson, Kaulture; a sister, Sarah McGee; a brother, Jimmy Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends she loved dearly.
