On Sunday May 31, 2020, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Mary Beatrice Edmondson, fulfilled her assignment here and entered into eternal rest while at Delmar Gardens North Nursing Home, St. Louis, Missouri.
Mary Beatrice Edmondson was born June 25, 1937 in Stovall, Mississippi. She was the oldest daughter of Marie and Robert Townes. Her parents later moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where she leaved for 82 years. Mary was a devout Christian, was baptized at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, St. Louis, Missouri. Mary was a faithful servant, believed in reading the bible and enjoyed singing in the choir.
Mary overcame multiple health challenges after having a massive stroke in 2006. For 82 years, we were blessed to have her with us. She openly shared her beliefs, values in working hard, being honest, and loving all who entered her space. She had a contagious laughter in which one could never forget.
She sacrificed an abundance of time and effort by working multiple jobs to create the best possible life for her family. Mary fought for civil liberties for minorities and participated in various equal rights marches and sit-ins.
Her education consisted of an Associate of Arts Degree, in General Studies from Forest Park State Community College, Certified Nurse Assistant, and Certified Phlebotomist. She was an accomplished medical professional for over 50 years. Mary retired from the Veterans St. Louis Health Care System and Village North Nursing Home St. Louis, Missouri in 2006.
She leaves to cherish the many loving memories, her 6 children (Doris, Lawrence, Janet, Kevin, Sharon, and Veronica); 4 brothers (Robert, James, David, and Douglas); 17 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Mary was preceded to Heaven by her Mother (Marie Townes); Father (Robert Townes); Daughter (Arnita Walls); Brothers (Sonny, Alan, Bruce, and Larry); Sister (Amanda Townes); grandchildren (Lawrence, Michael Townes, Michael Walls, and Marquitta).
