Hyland Brew was born March 25,1957 in Saint Louis, Missouri at Homer G. Phillips Memorial Hospital. He was born to the proud parents of Charles and Lillie Townsend. He was the 4th child of 10 children. He was preceded in death by his mother Lillie, father Charles, a mother-in-law Rose, one brother James, two sisters Doris and Lavada, a brother-in-law Gary, two nephews Juwon, and Edward III, and one great nephew Patrick.
Hyland professed a hope in Christ at an early age. He went on to be a licensed preacher in 1969 at the tender age of 12 at the New Berean M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Tommy Mosley. At just the age of 12, he was a preacher who made an impact all around the city. He would preach all around St. Louis and surrounding cities, filling the people’s spirit. He would also mentor and show love to up and coming preachers in the area. Hyland was good like that. He was ordained as a minister in 1974 at the age of 17. He would go on to preach until his health failed.
Hyland attended St. Louis Public Schools up until he volunteered for the United States Army. He enlisted in the army from 1975 to 1978. While serving in the military, he received his high school diploma from Eagle High School and associate degree in computer science from Basic Institute of Technologies.
Hyland was an active minister at the Leonard M.B. Church under the leadership of Bishop Steven G Thompson for 15 years. Recently, He was led by the Holy Spirit to become a servant at Mt. Pisgah Christian Church under the leadership of Pastor Aaron Houston.
Hyland worked as a security guard for 20+ years for the Dept. of Mental Health.
Hyland married Dorris Harden on December 28, 1981, to this union two children were born.
Hyland was a servant of God. He was a kind-hearted, giving, gentle giant. He was very competitive, and he loved cooking and eating his own food.
Hyland would always quote Matthew 25:21, “His Lord said to him, WELL DONE, good and faithful servant: you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter into the joy of your lord (NKJV).” Hyland was called to the presence of our Lord on May 2, 2024, at 2:15pm.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Dorris, his children Quianna, Chaz (Erica), Kai, his god-daughter Sharhonda, his grandchildren, Ry’n, Chasity, Kamryn and, K’lonnii, his bonus grandchildren Deon and Drea, five bonus great grandchildren, his six siblings Vincent Sr., Tequilla, Cornelius (Roxanne), Alfred, Rhondia, and Corwin, one sister-in-law Carol, one aunt Josephine, two of his best friends Alfred and Steve, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
